Vaccinations & Shots

There are NO required vaccinations or shots for travel to India; however, you should consult your doctor to assure that all of your immunizations are up-to-date.

We recommend that you consult with your local travel clinic for recommended inoculations for travel to India. Your local travel clinic may have some recommendations specifically for you.

To find out the most current travel health information, we recommend that you contact the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A note on traveler's diarrhea:

Many travelers bring a prescription for traveler's diarrhea medication, such as CIPRO or another prescription recommended by their doctor. While Discover Corps provides clean food and water, the change in diet can sometimes upset stomachs. Travelers who do not bring such a prescription often wish that they had. Please consider this as you are making your decision.

A note on altitude sickness:

Most travelers do not experience altitude sickness, as we allow time to acclimate to the high altitude. Some travelers choose to bring altitude sickness medication, as a precaution.

A note on malaria:

Discover Corps trips in India do not operate in areas of the country where malaria is known to be present. Most travelers do not take anti-malarial medication. However, because malaria is present in other areas of India, some travelers do choose to take the medication. There are several options to consider for anti-malarial medication, some of which can have serious side effects. This can seriously impact their experience negatively. Alternative medications are not always readily available abroad. Please speak with your doctor about whether or not it is appropriate to take anti-malarial medication while on your trip and which option is best for you.
