Discover Corps wants our travelers to be as prepared as possible. Please read the points below thoroughly to see if this trip is right for you. Please reach out to the Travel Coordinator for any additional clarification or questions.
Accommodations- Nights 1-6 at Surfer's Horizon are enclosed apartments with two, private bedrooms. The living spaces are shared and your bathroom could be outside of your room. Please review these details here.
Volunteering - The program at David Fleay Wildlife Park can include some high-intensity work with uneven terrain, walking, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods while you join the rangers in some of their daily tasks. If you have any physical limitations, please communicate with Discover Corps before your trip.
You will not be touching the animals, and holding Koalas is prohibited.
Great Barrier Reef Day -While in Cairns, you’ll get to experience one of the true highlights of the trip: exploring the Great Barrier Reef. To reach the snorkeling site, you’ll take a 2.5-hour boat ride. The ocean can be unpredictable, and the journey may be bumpy, so we strongly recommend bringing and taking anti-nausea medication in advance to help prevent seasickness and ensure a more comfortable experience.
Activities may include:
Helping care for the wildlife at the center
Preparing the food
Feeding the animals
Cleaning their enclosures
Planting around the grounds
Being of any assistance to the rangers and staff
