Currency & Tipping
Money
The UGX (Ugandan Shilling) is the national currency of the Republic of Uganda, although the symbol USh is used to represent the currency locally. Up until 2013, the Ugandan shilling was divisible into 100 cents.
Discover Corps recommends you exchange US Dollars for Shilling at the airport or ahead of time. For spending money you should bring only $100 bill(s) to be changed in the country. The issue date must not be before the year 2013 (so ask your bank for 2013, 2014 … or newer). You may carry smaller bills for international airports but in Uganda, they are exchanged at a very low rate. Also, any US bill needs to be new and without ANY markings or tears.
