Is This Trip Right for You?

Discover Corps wants our travelers to be as prepared as possible and choose the trip that will maximize enjoyment. Please read the points below thoroughly to see if this trip is right for you.

Accommodations: You will stay nights 6-8 at ChangLand Elephant sanctuary in a rural area outside of Chiang Mai. The sanctuary has solar energy and the electricity to run fans and use outlets to charge phones etc. can be limited depending on weather. We recommend bringing a portable charger for your phone just in case! There is also no WIFI available at the sanctuary, it is a lovely place to take in the slower pace of life and unwind, while spending time with the elephants and learning the way of life of the mahouts! All rooms have a private bathroom.

Elephant Sanctuary: There are dirt paths, and small hills you will need to walk up and down to get to your accommodations. We ask that you pack only essentials and leave the rest of your luggage at the hotel in Chiang Mai in order to make this as easy as possible for all travelers. You will be given a shirt and pants to use for volunteering, so you will only need to pack clothes to sleep in, or for downtime in the evenings after volunteering. The volunteer work consists of going on walks with the elephants in the forest for about 1 - 1.5 hours, usually at a slow pace with many stops. Other activities consist of cutting grass in the fields, making medicine balls from herbs, feeding the elephants, and getting in the water with them if you’d like!
