Discover Corps wants our travelers to be as prepared as possible. Please read the points below thoroughly to see if this trip is right for you. Reach out to the Travel Coordinator for any additional clarification or questions.
Vehicle Time: Due to the location of the safari and the game drives, you will spend a lot of time in vehicles. During your time in Kenya, we will explore many incredible and unique destinations. Reaching these places will require some long drives, with travel times of around 7 hours. Please come prepared to embrace the journey and make the most of this unforgettable experience.
Wildlife: You should feel comfortable in being in open game vehicles in a reserve where there are wild animals. The guides are professionals and will give you specific instructions before each game drive. Please also remember that wildlife is unpredictable. Although we will do our best to spot many animals, we cannot guarantee you are going to see them.
Poverty: Nairobi is a rapidly growing city, but like many developing urban areas, it faces challenges such as traffic congestion and income inequality. Visitors may find the poverty in certain areas surprising or even unsettling. In some parts of the city, you may be approached by people selling goods or asking for food or money. While your local guide will help navigate these situations, it’s important to know that it’s completely acceptable to politely say, “no, thank you” and walk away.
Laws: Please remember that you are in a different country where local laws, rules, and customs may differ from what you're used to. It's important to be aware and respectful of these differences to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip.
Here are a few common examples that vary in Kenya:
Smoking Areas: Smoking is banned in all public places, including workplaces, hotel grounds, lounge areas, and entrances, unless designated as a smoking area. Violations can lead to fines or imprisonment.
Plastic Bags policy: Single-use plastic bags are illegal in Kenya. Please do not bring those with you.
Take a few minutes to learn about your destination's local regulations and customs. It shows respect and helps avoid any unintended issues during your stay.
Lodging: While the Tamarind Tree Hotel offers comfortable accommodations and convenient access to Nairobi’s key sites, it is distinct from the safari lodges featured throughout the rest of your journey. Located in an urban setting, it serves primarily as a practical base for arrival or departure days, whereas the safari lodges provide a more immersive and elevated experience aligned with the natural surroundings.
