About a week before your trip, you should have received your final itinerary and CISI Medical Insurance via email. Please review the checklist and make sure you have all items in order well in advance:
Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.
Visa: U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays under 90 days.
Insurance: Print your CISI Medical Insurance card (emailed ~10 days before departure) and travel with it.
Final Itinerary: Print your final itinerary. This contains your 24-hour emergency line and is often requested by immigration as proof of onward travel.
Money: Peru is a cash-heavy society. Use local ATMs to withdraw Peruvian Soles (PEN). While high-end hotels and restaurants in Cusco take cards, small vendors and markets will require cash.
Airlines: Verify baggage weight limits, especially for domestic flights between Lima and Cusco, if applicable. Update your Travel Coordinator if flight times have shifted.
Tech: Peru primarily uses Type A and C plugs (standard US two-prong and European round-prong). Most modern outlets in tourist areas are "universal" and fit both.
Packing List: Check our packing list for essentials
Altitude Prep: We recommend talking to your doctor about altitude sickness medication before you depart.
Pre-Departure Call: Schedule a final conversation with your Trip Coordinator once you receive your itinerary.
Phone: Pick up a local eSIM or check with your provider about international data. Coverage is excellent in cities but spotty in the Sacred Valley and in the Machu Picchu area.
